Mer d’Orage, dated 1928, captures the drama of the open sea just as a storm begins to gather. Dark, rolling clouds stretch across the horizon while sailboats cut through choppy waves, their silhouettes steady against the movement. There’s tension here—but also rhythm. Printed on carton entoilé—a canvas-mounted board—this piece carries the texture and presence of an oil painting, with the added structure of a rigid surface. Produced by Lefranc, one of France’s most storied art suppliers (established in 1720), it reflects a time when even reproductions were made with remarkable care and intention.

The palette leans deep and atmospheric—burnt umbers, stormy greys, and flashes of seafoam white—giving it that cinematic contrast that draws you in without overwhelming a space.
