Bold, layered, and unapologetically full of life.

Vase de Fleurs, painted in 1942 by Louis Pastour (1876–1948), is a vivid example of the artist’s late-career work—where color, texture, and confidence take center stage. Known as Lou Pintre dou Soulèu (“The Painter of the Sun”), Pastour was celebrated for capturing the warmth and intensity of the South of France, and you can feel that same energy here.

The bouquet is dense and expressive, built from thick, sculptural strokes of paint applied with a palette knife. Rather than blending, the colors sit boldly beside one another—deep reds, ochres, creams, and greens—creating a surface that quite literally catches the light. It shifts throughout the day, revealing new depth and movement depending on where you’re standing.

Set against a rich green ground, the composition balances structure and spontaneity: the grounded vase below, the blooms above in full, almost unruly expansion. It’s controlled, but never restrained.

Created during a period when Pastour was at the height of his technical maturity, this piece reflects both his signature impasto technique and his lifelong fascination with luminosity. His works—held in notable collections including the Musée d’Orsay—continue to resonate for their warmth, texture, and unmistakable presence.

Framed in a classic gilt frame, it feels both elevated and entirely livable.

It’s the kind of floral that doesn’t fade—and doesn’t try to behave.
